THE ORDER:
It was really short notice – we received the order for organizing a mobile escape room game in the clients’ office a week from now. We were excited to take that on! Our task was to:
- Organize an engaging attraction for a comapny event that was taking place in their Krakow office
- Making sure that the puzzles were difficult enough for software eingeneers
- Making it happen really quickly
ESCAPE BOX FOR A COMPANY EVENT – THE PREPARATIONS
We had only 7 days to prepare the game so we decided to use our trusted product: an escape box, which contains a whole escape room worth of puzzles in a mysterious black box. It works as if we used one of Ant-Man’s handy little devices to shrink a whole escape room, with all of it’s electronics, secret passages and riddles and tucked all of that into an elegant black box.
😊
Do not be fooled by it’s size – the escape box will surprise you! It has everything that escape room enthusiasts love: connecting facts, codes and cyphers, looking for clues and even some phisycal challenges. Obviously, there was also a ticking clock. All of these elements made for an exciting game that works perfectly during teambuilding events and will keep even the most experienced riddlers occupied – we’ve been organizing events like that for 7 years now, so we were sure that the escape box would be a crowd pleaser! In case of an order with that short of a notice, we wanted to rely on a dependable solution.
ESCAPE BOX FOR A COMPANY EVENT – REALISATION:
The game was supposed to be organized for polish-speaking players, but when we arrived in the office we were asked to adjust the game to be in English. A situation like this could ruin the most meticulously planned event – not every puzzle can be instantly translated, most of them can’t be directly translated at all. Let’s imagine a simple scenario – the word cztery could be coded and you can’t just change it to four and work with the same coding device; you’d have to change the whole system.
How did we make it work?
Well, whatever the client wants, the client gets: luckily we were prepared for a quick language change:
- The puzzles were designed with two languages in mind. It was quite a challenge at that stage, but we decided to put in the time to make it easier in the future – now we can switch the game language even in the middle of the event
- Our whole team can speak fluent English, so we were able to coordinate the game in that language from the beginning. Collectively, we know 6 languages and even have a language expert on the team 😉
We’ve been in this business too long to let a little surprise like that throw us off.
The whole event went according to plan. For the 25-people teambuilding we came equipped with 5 escape boxes – each with a different set of puzzles. We devided the group into 5 teams and played five rounds so that every team had a chance to solve each of the boxes. That way everyone had a fair chance of winning.
ESCAPE BOX FOR A COMPANY EVENT – EVALUATION
The game was heated but there was a really nice and joyous atmosphere. One team even decided to move their escape box a little closer to the catering table – to keep the energy high 😊 The winning team got a special prize from Schibsted company.
Seeing the players so excited, still discussing the game with other teams after it was all done was all the proof we needed – our job here was well done. We managed to get them out of their routine and move into an entirely new place – one full of puzzles, rivalry and engaing riddles.
We hope to keep doing that!
