Augmented reality (AR) object game around the hotel in szczyrk

Case Study: Company events in the form of escape hotel – Augmented Reality (AR) object game around Hotel **** Klimczok in Szczyrk Client: EWM Agency looking for modern and immersive team-building entertainment for its corporate client Number of participants: 40 people Lead time: 1.5 months Playthrough time: 1 h 15 min Language: EnglishTASK FOR ESCAPECITY TEAM: EWM event agency approached us with a request for modern escape hotel-style entertainment for a team building trip for their corporate client, organizing a company event at Hotel **** Klimczok in Szczyrk. Our task was to:
  • organize inter-team competition in several rounds with equal conditions for all teams
  • prepare such puzzles so that they could be “reset” and prepared to be solved again in a short time

LOGISTICS: The challenge in this company event is logistics. Everything has to be carefully thought out so that each team has an equal chance to win. In events focused on a pinch of e-competition, each team should have its individual time and points counted. In addition, teams should not “overlap” on tasks and wait in lines to solve them. Most often, the organizer also wishes all teams to finish the game more or less at the same time, as they are chased by the next point on the agenda. Another complication in all of this was the issue of arranging the hotel space for the puzzles. Why? Well, we could not “hop” to Szczyrk at any time to check everything on the spot. Of course, we received photos of the space that we could take into account, but it was necessary to arrive the day before the event to finalize everything on the spot.

SCENARIO AND PUZZLES: After considering the logistical aspects of the event, our next step was to think about the scenario and select puzzles. Teams were to compete in 3 rounds, also the same puzzles were to be solved at least three times, in short intervals. This aspect determined that we did not consider puzzles in the form of large-scale mazes, from which you have to pull an item. “Restarting” them would have taken too long and could have unnecessarily stopped teams, causing queues and dissatisfaction.

Instead, we went with AR – Augmented Reality puzzles. We equipped the teams with iPads for the game and set up several AR attraction points. This meant the fun ran smoothly, with no “queues” for puzzles, and on top of that we managed to surprise players who work with cutting-edge technology every day with something completely new. For the storyline, we went with an action-movie, secret-agent vibe, saving the world from danger. Well, who wouldn’t want to be a superhero?

Company events – building game – implementation:

It took us about a month to prepare the scenario, puzzles and work out all the logistics. We worked intensively to take into account all the client’s needs for this company event. The group consisted of 40 people, hence our proposal to divide the team into eight teams of 5 people. So that everyone could be fully involved. From our years of experience, teams which are too small can be a problem, just as too large teams can become a hindrance to quality integration.Participants would start the game in the main hotel lobby, then disperse in different directions following the clues left for them. To ensure that each team had the space and freedom to solve the puzzles, we changed the order of the tasks for the teams. This way, they walked the same route but without disturbing each other. The game involved the hotel rooms, restaurant, staircase, lobby and outdoor space. It took the teams about 65 minutes to complete the missions, so we met the organizer’s time limit (75 minutes with introduction to the game and collection of results).

Company events – building game – effects and summary:

The EscapeCity team rose to the occasion and delivered on the assignment. An engaging scenario (both the storyline and the puzzles) meant nobody got bored. Equipping participants with realistic props and introducing them to modern augmented reality (AR – Augmented Reality) technology made it easy for them to step into the role of special agents on a secret mission.

To turn up the competitive spirit even more, we used a real-time scoring system for all teams! Players could check their standing on the iPad at any moment and compare themselves with other teams on a leaderboard prepared specially for company events like this one.

We heard a lot of kind words from participants about the puzzles, the storyline, and the AR – Augmented Reality technology, which most players were experiencing for the first time. In the end, we also received a testimonial from the event’s organizer:
