Key Takeaways in 30 Seconds

Case study: Team-building games, or how an online escape room opened the door to better communication
Client: An international team of specialists from Europe and the USA
Number of participants: 20 people
Playtime: an hour of entertainment in an online escape room
Language: English
The task for the EscapeCity team:
We recently received a request to organise a team-building activity for an international team of employees. The goal of the event was to create engaging entertainment that would bring together people from different corners of the world, while eliminating the need to organise an in-person meeting. The activity was meant to help a team that normally works remotely get to know each other better and build relationships. It was also meant to give a new manager the chance to get to know their colleagues more closely. The key assumption was to spark emotions that would become a talking point for further conversations and strengthen the team’s sense of belonging (the “Brothers in Arms” effect).

An Online Escape Room as a Way to Integrate an International Team
Logistics:
In response to the organisational challenges faced by companies whose employees work remotely, we decided to adapt our services to meet these needs. We added 360-degree team-building puzzle rooms to our portfolio, which can be played together online from anywhere in the world. Our scenarios are full of logic puzzles that require creative thinking and effective communication.
Scenario and Puzzles:
One of the scenarios from our offer is the online puzzle room: Project XD. We suggested it to our client because its storyline and atmosphere tied in perfectly with the realities of their industry. Participants took on the role of a team of experts solving a mysterious puzzle related to cybersecurity. The challenges required logical thinking, quick reactions and effective coordination. This let them practise a realistic situation in a controlled environment, discover their strengths as a team and improve their communication.
Team-Building Games – An Effective Way to Build Online Collaboration
Execution:
During the game, participants connected online and solved tasks together in real time. We made sure the experience was immersive by introducing interactive elements. This was designed to spark collaboration and action.
To ensure maximum engagement from participants, we split them into smaller, mixed teams, each given a set amount of time to complete the game. Every group had to communicate effectively, analyse clues and make strategic decisions. The whole thing took place in an interactive online environment, with our Game Master keeping the gameplay running smoothly and motivating the teams to act.
At the client’s request, we also added a competitive element – teams earned points for every puzzle they solved. At the end, we announced a ranking of the best teams. This format made participants approach the game with even greater enthusiasm.
Does an Online Escape Room Have a Real Impact on a Team?
Results and Summary:
The results of the event met both the client’s expectations and our own. By solving puzzles together and competing, the team had the chance to better understand their strengths and the most effective ways to communicate.
The team’s new manager noticed positive changes – improved information flow between departments and greater employee engagement in day-to-day duties. The event turned out to be more than just entertainment; it became real support for the team’s everyday functioning.
Our solution proved to be an effective team-building tool, one the client decided to use again in the future. For us, it’s yet another valuable experience in organising online team-building escape rooms, one that shows how a well-designed game can strengthen relationships and improve collaboration, no matter where the participants are located.
