Gamification revolution: a hybrid escape room. How the project Protocol CH.I.M.E.R.A.: ‘In the Footsteps of Krakow Masters’ transforms the classic Krakow escape room into an extraordinary tourist experience.
Standard group outings, dull dinners and run-of-the-mill city attractions are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Today’s tourists, corporate groups and teachers are looking for more than just simple, passive entertainment – they expect unique experiences that combine meaningful personal development, the building of authentic relationships and technology.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the launch of our latest project – a hybrid escape room from our sister brand, Gamescape – *Protocol CH.I.M.E.R.A.:* ‘In the Footsteps of Kraków’s Masters’. This project was developed in partnership with the Kraków Tourism Alliance.
This is an example of how a modern, hybrid escape room can become a brilliant, adrenaline-fuelled lesson in art history.

The C.H.I.M.E.R.A. Protocol hybrid escape room – a spy thriller and a play
The CH.I.M.E.R.A. Protocol project: ‘In the Footsteps of Kraków’s Masters’ has breathed a whole new artistic life into Gamescape’s flagship, stationary experience. This space has been transformed into a clever, suspenseful game modelled on the cult film *The Thomas Crown Affair*.
The hybrid escape room ‘Protocol CH.I.M.E.R.A.’ has created a space in which works by Kraków artists (copies of works by famous Kraków painters, of course) are not merely aesthetic decoration. They have been integrated into the storyline and the logic puzzles. The main inspiration for the entire plot is Jacek Malczewski’s famous painting ‘Interior with a Chimera’, from the collection of the National Museum in Kraków. Participants become agents who, by examining the details, hidden symbols and brushstrokes on the canvases of 10 outstanding Kraków painters, search for clues to help them on their secret mission.
An expert’s view: The combination of game mechanics and Kraków’s cultural heritage in this hybrid escape room means that knowledge about the city is absorbed almost without realising it, driven by the sheer excitement of the game.
A hybrid adventure: how technology and Kulturopedia bring worlds together
When designing a hybrid escape room experience, a multi-channel approach is key. That is why the project is hybrid in nature – the excitement and the process of unravelling mysteries do not end the moment the door to the room opens and the timer stops.

Drawing inspiration from modern museum practices, dedicated QR codes have been placed beneath each of the 10 paintings by Kraków masters in the room. When scanned with a smartphone, players gain immediate access to ‘Kulturopedia’ – a proprietary virtual knowledge base and a special online game dedicated to Polish art. This enables both synchronous (i.e. whilst playing) and asynchronous, long-term consolidation of connections and deepening of knowledge about Kraków’s historical heritage at any time chosen by the participants – both during the game and upon returning home or to the office.
A hybrid escape room for businesses and schools: modern team-building and edutainment
This unique format has been carefully designed to meet measurable business and educational objectives:
- Team-building for businesses in Kraków: the hybrid escape room scenario provides an uncompromising test for dynamic corporate structures. It naturally tests and develops crisis communication, forces the allocation of roles within the group under time pressure, and stimulates creative, out-of-the-box thinking. The game is 100% bilingual (Polish/English), making it the ideal tool for building relationships within international and dispersed teams.
- School trip to Kraków: a lively, fully immersive art history lesson based on the edutainment format. Instead of listening passively, the pupils become detectives, which enables them to absorb the knowledge with great enthusiasm and engagement.
- City sightseeing: a versatile activity that doesn’t require exceptional physical fitness. It allows you to experience and soak up the atmosphere of Kraków through fun, active and creative activities.
Why is this the best hybrid escape room in the Małopolska region?
If you’re looking for an experience that redefines industry standards, the new instalment of ‘The C.H.I.M.E.R.A. Protocol’ is undoubtedly a contender for the title of best hybrid escape room for discerning groups.
Thanks to our official partnership with the Kraków Tourism Alliance, we have created a safe, deeply engaging and well-thought-out experience. It is the perfect way to make business meetings, MICE conferences or unconventional educational trips more appealing.
Take up the challenge, unravel the intricate spy plot and experience Kraków’s classical theatre in a unique way.
